It all started back in 2017, when Gyna, one of our co-founders moved to Seattle, WA and discovered the term “Seattle freeze”. She had already experienced moving to a new city with small kids and how difficult it was finding like-minded mom friends. Never did she imagine living in a city that was in dire need of ways for people to connect and build community. They call this the "Seattle Freeze".
Gyna saw the impact that Seattle freeze had on mothers when she proposed a moms night out outing on Facebook in a new moms group she had just joined. Never did she imagine that 16 women would come out! Gyna decided to facilitate a conversation amongst the moms and encourage them to steer clear of discussing their partner or children. As much as we love them, this night was for them to encourage and focus on themselves for once.
Rich conversation was had and new connections were made. This group of women closed the restaurant down and the gathering ended with tears of joy and a new hope of building authentic genuine community. Gyna realized that this was her life's work. Creating authentic spaces for moms to connect and find their community.
Fast forward to today, Gyna moved back to NYC and The Mothering was birthed, expanding our demographic, capabilities, and ambitions to bring even more moms together IRL and create a spaces where meaningful connection, tangible support, and encouragement of each other will help change the future of our families for generations to come.
